Tata Motors introduces Tiago NRG priced at INR 5.50 lakhs
Tata Motors today launched its “Urban Toughroader” Tata Tiago NRG to take on the likes of Maruti CelerioX, Hyundai i20 Active, Ford Freestyle among others.
With festive season round the corner, Tata Motors has come forward with their first launch – The Tiago NRG. An extension to the Tata Tiago portfolio, the Tiago NRG is being projected as the “Urban Toughroader” which is basically a cross version of the original hatchback. Prices for the Tata Tiago NRG start at INR 5.50 – 6.32 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)
Based on the original hatchback, Tata Tiago NRG offers a more rugged appeal. The front end for that matter is more beefed up courtesy a reworked bumper, the sides stand to provide plastic cladding on either side along with dual tone 4 spoke alloy wheels and roof rails. At the rear, the tailgate features a black plastic strip and a roof mounted spoiler. The presence of a skid plate both up-front and towards the rear definitely brings across it cross-over feel.
Speaking at the launch Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors said, “In line with our brand promise ‘Connecting Aspirations’, we want to be in sync with the growing trend of bringing to market more SUV like vehicles. To meet this aspiration, we have launched today, the Tiago NRG as our ‘Urban Toughroader’. With this launch, we are extending the Tiago brand and increasing our presence by entering into newer segments and tapping new sets of buyers. This launch is a step towards our Turnaround 2.0 journey, as we continue to focus on ‘winning sustainably’ in the PV business. We are confident that our customers will appreciate the Tiago NRG just like the Tiago hatchback.”
The cabin comes equipped with a black interior with vibrant Canyon orange highlights. The seats with body hugging bolsters feature a unique denim inspired fabric along with a cooled glove box. For entertainment, there is 5 inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman compatible with Navigation, voice command for media, radio and phone. For luggage space there is 242 litre of storage space.
Mechanically the Tata Tigor NRG is the same as the Tigor hatch. Therefore there are two engines of offer namely 1.2 litre Revotron petrol and 1.5 litre Revotorq diesel. Both these engines comes matted to 5-speed manual transmission. Tigor NRG comes in three paint shades – Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White. With a tweaked suspension, this hatchback offers a ground clearance of 180mm.
Safety features as standard fitment on NRG include dual front air bags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control, reverse parking assist, follow-me-home lamps, rear wiper and a driver seatbelt reminder.
